Growing Hokkaido’s wine industry with totally Japanese wines made from 100% domestically grown grapes
Hokkaido’s wine industry began here in Otaru in 1974, when an entrepreneur opened Tsurunuma Vineyard on a hunch that Hokkaido’s climate would make it possible produce true Japanese wine.
With the support of many people, the founding team overcame many different problems through trial and error, and after six years of hard work they shipped their first wine.
The company’s aim was to bring people a true Japanese wine made from domestically grown grapes, and to this day they are committed to using only Japanese grapes for totally Japanese wines. At Otaru Wine Gallery, you can learn about the history of the winery and how the wines are made.

Tsurunuma Gewürztraminer 2019
That aroma always makes my heart skip a beat.
This wine! It's made with high-quality white wine grapes that have been grown in the company's vineyard since 1980, and when you pick up your glass, you smell this refreshing, sweet, rich, full-bodied aroma.
Then you drink it and it's even more full-bodied than you thought it would be.
I like the way it's not too sweet and there's a subtle grape fragrance.
It's even better when you enjoy it with Gorgonzola or shellfish.
