Maoi Jiyu No Oka Winery
A free-thinking winery exploring new possibilities
Originally opened as Maoi Winery in 2006, three young would-be winemakers took over and rebranded it in 2017.
The trio were new to winemaking, but 10 years of data from the previous owner provided a blueprint for the grape-growing process, and they are now working to grow new species of their own. They are now building a new winery and distillery that they plan to open in fall 2021, the latter of which will be used to make brandy.

This one catches your eye right away with its cute label—which was apparently chosen in a competition—and the way the bottle is designed to showcase the clear, vivid color of the rosé wine.
2% of the grapes are wild grapes from the company's vineyard, which add a slight tang to the fruity aroma and taste and emphasize the presence of the grapes.
