Kamikawa Taisetsu Sake Brewery – Ryokkyugura Brewery
Community-focused brewing that raises the profile of the region
This brewery was opened in 2017 in Kamikawa, a town nestled in the freezing Daisetsuzan mountains.
Its products are made from high-quality natural water from the mountain snow and specialist sake rice grown in Kamikawa and other regions of Hokkaido.
Local ingredients are a major priority for this brewery, which is deeply rooted in the community and contributes to the vitalization of Kamikawa. The concept of Ryokkyugura Brewery’s work is “made the regular way”. The brewery makes only junmai sake, working by hand in small batches to turn each portion of mash into sake that is nomasaru (Hokkaido dialect for “something you just can’t resist drinking”).

Kamikawa Junmai
I met the sake of my dreams in Kamikawa!
So sweet and gentle...
Who, you ask?
Oh, I'm not talking about a person.
It's this nomasaru sake I encountered in Kamikawa—the sake of my dreams.
It even goes down cleanly. I love the sharpness of it.
This sake is great at any temperature—chilled, room temperature, slightly warmed or hot.
It's wonderful with a family meal. I could drink this every day for the rest of my life.
You can only buy it at liquor stores and convenience stores in Kamikawa, and to give you an idea of how fantastic this sake is, it was chosen by the High-Grade Northern Foods 2021 initiative, which recognizes Hokkaido's best foods. Amazing.
