Kunimare Sake Brewery Company Limited
Historic traditions rooted in a love for sake brewing and the town of Mashike
This is the northernmost sake brewery in Japan. It was opened in 1882, during the height of Mashike’s prosperity as a herring fishing hub, by a kimono fabric merchant called Honma Taizo who wanted to provide sake for the fishing workers.
Pure water from the Shokanbetsu mountains and carefully selected, high-quality rice are made into sake by highly trained brewers following the traditional Nanbu technique. Kunimare believes that if there is harmony between those making the sake, there will be harmony between those who drink it together, and this mindset has been passed down through the generations just like the brewing techniques themselves.

Kunimare Hokkaido Exclusive Junmai Ginjo
A super-crisp sake made from Hokkaido water
When you smell this sake and take a sip, you feel this crispness fill your mouth.
This sake really announces its presence as it goes down—it's the dryness.
Some sake fans will drink a dry sake and say "How can they call something as sweet as this 'dry'?!" If that's you, this is a dry sake that won't disappoint.
This gets Mama's seal of approval! ♡ This one is best chilled, no question.
Even if it's winter, you drink this one cold.
Have you ever eaten ice cream in a toasty warm room with the heater on full blast? It's like that.
This sake goes well with anything salty—shiokara (fermented seafood), ham, salty delicacies, edamame, fries, rock salt, anything like that.
Gimme salt!
This sake will give you an appreciate for how great the water in Hokkaido tastes.
Ah, Hokkaido sakes are amazing these days.
This makes the ideal gift too.
