Sapporo Beer Museum
A 19th-century building full of industry history
Sapporo Beer Museum is housed in a red brick building built in 1890. The building is registered as a Hokkaido heritage site.
Originally a sugar factory, the building was later purchased by Sapporo Beer and operated as a beer factory until 1965.
It then became the Development Commission Beer Museum and finally Sapporo Beer Museum.
It is the only museum in Japan dedicated to preserving the history of Japan’s beer industry. In the grounds you’ll find Sapporo Beer Garden, where you can enjoy draft beer and Genghis Khan (Mongolian barbecue).

Kaitakushi Beer Alt
There's a sense of comfort with this beer, like I've enjoyed it many times before
Part of the joy of drinking this beer is the anticipation.
When you pour it into a mug, you get this wonderful foam and see the clear amber color, almost brick red.
When you drink it, it's smooth with a lighter mouthfeel than you'd expect when you look at it, and the aftertaste has just the right amount of bitterness from the malt.
The flavor is crisp with plenty of depth—I think even diehard Sapporo Beer fans will be blown away by this one.
It makes me want to have a glass with a plate of Genghis Khan and imagine what Hokkaido was like in bygone days.
